National Biodiversity Week Ireland May 18th-24th: Teaching Resources

🌹It’s National Biodiversity Week in Ireland! 🐝

🌎 Biodiversity is the variety of life on #Earth. It is essential for sustaining the ecosystems that provide us with food, clean water, fuel, health, wealth, and other services we take for granted in our everyday life. Read more about biodiversity in this National Geographic article and watch these videos to learn more. 🌾

🐇 Discuss with your child the meanings of any new words encountered in their learning so far.🐁

🐛 Although we cannot venture too far, nature and wildlife can often be observed around us if we pause to take the time to do so. 🐿

🌿Your children may enjoy the Backyard Biodiversity (or some of the other challenges) here. 🦔

🐟 There are a myriad of other activity ideas in this bumper Biodiversity Challenge book. 🐚

🌼Tune in to Living Earth TV & check out their activity guides for great ideas to keep your young nature lovers engaged and learning this week.🕷

🐬Check out the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group who will be sharing a new video each day teaching all about different whales and dolphins. Today’s video features orcas/killer whales. See it here. 🐋

🍂 Delve deeper into the biodiversity theme with these videos from PBS Learning Media. 🦋

🐞 Get more information about biodiversity and join in with a range of activities recommended  on the WWF site🐦

🌻Are you aware of some great resources I have missed? Please share with us below!☘️

🌳 Here’s wishing you and your children a wonder-filled week! And remember, we don’t need to be in a particular country or choose a particular week to marvel at mother nature!🐾

Take care and stay safe all!
